Seed saving and Seed Swapping

If anyone else is interested in seeds :) a couple of tips from Arjen at Emerson below, and the possibility of a workshop for saving and then swopping.... be great to get a lot of the community along for such a thing -"save money, swop seeds, eat well"

Arjen writes

"I always save some seeds for the next years. This year is pakchoy (some sort of Chinese leaves) and probably soem flowerseeds as well. It is really important when seed saving that you do a proper selection of the individual specimen… Continue

Visioning Food - 2018

For the first meeting of the good group I had a go at imagining Forest Row food-wise 10 years from now, so here it is, my first thoughts. It would be great to develop this, getting a sense of where we really want to get to and how we want to live - to help us start towards it. Pitch in anyone/everyone who wants to and let's expand the ideas :)

Where do we need to get to, to survive and thrive? just to get us all thinking…

Hi Flora,
I saw Peter today and he told me about the allotment idea for the Emerson Land. I was speaking with him about different ways of doing it - having some as communal land rather than all individual allotments. He said I should get in touch with you about it. Anyway give me a call if you can so I can tell you of my experience. 01342 823 199. Thanks

Hi Flora. Building on our conversation at the energy event on a vision building event in October, I'd like to invite you to meet this coming Monday at my house to kick off the conversation about it. Can you make it? Say an 8:00 for an 8:15 start. I hope to see you here.

Thanks Flora
He is Justin Cleveland-Peck ,use same address and email as me. His date of birth is 1st April 1971 and he is a Landscape Architect and Gardener. He now more or less runs our smallhodling ( sheep poultry bees fruit and veg). My husband Dennis is an ex-chef so we love growing and eating & think your group sounds great. I am a travel writer so often away ( ghastly carbon footprint I'm afraid) but will come to meetings when I can.

Dear Flora
I have recently joined the group and now my son Justin wants to join to. I can't seem to join him via a form...can I send you his details. I shall not be able to come to the meeting on 24th as I am abroad but he will come. He is very involved in our smallholding and we all love food!
best

Splendid. I put a little about this visit on the village hall website (http://forestrowvillagehall.org/jfk.html), and there is some film available on the Pathe site, though their terms and conditions prohibit usage on either other websites or (and more importantly) public screenings (I was thinking about the Film Society).

Hi Flora, I hope you receive this before the meeting tonight. I'm afraid I won't be able to make it as am swamped with work to do tonight. But I just wanted to say that the berries are turning colour quite quickly and that probably in the next week or maybe 2 we can begin harvesting, depending on the sunshine! Raspberries, gooseberries and black currants first. please call me whenever if you have any questions or thoughts...etc. or if something comes up in the meeting. Sorry I won't be there!
