To start an informal car club my suggestion is get a group of interested people together and see who is up for it (I'm not one of them). Doing it informally will be a lot quicker than getting a commercial company involved.

If you can't get though to the Lewes car club let me know as I know someone there.

there I go taking you literally Mike - so how can we set something like this up in FR?

The Lewes car club would be a bit freaked if you decided to leave it in Forest Row I would think - I only pointed you at it as an example of what could be set up not to use it here!

From the error message it sounds as though it is an email group that you need to join first, rather than a plain email address. I'm not a member of it and know nothing more about it than what is on the website.

Got an error message Mike - We're writing to let you know that the group that you tried to contact(silverbeancarclub) either doesn't exist, or you don't have permission to post to it.

Can you help? alan

Here is info on the Lewes informal car club:
http://transitiontowns.org/Lewes/Bakedbean

This would probably be the simplest and fastest approach to get something going.

They’re about to invest in a brand new low emissions car (band B), which will be based in central Lewes, & are looking for new members to join the scheme. The cost is £2 per hour – plus petrol - & a £75 joining fee. Please email the car-share club if you would like to find out more: silverbeancarclub@googlegroups.com

Hi I am keen on moving ths idea forward - it feels like something that is doable as Tony suggests. I am also on the verge of changing my car - partly to acomodate my 20year old son so he has a small car to drive when he visits us on his uni vacs and I only need a car on an occaisional basis. What are next steps to get this going? As I recall Tony was going to ask one of the service providers to come and speak - is this still worthwhile? Alan

I'm a member of Streetcar and will follow this up (when I have a moment..). I know that these plug-in hybrid conversions cost a frightening amount of money, so it would be unlikely to pay its way in sleepy FR. Nevertheless, I will ask what STreetcar's official policy is.

Streetcar launches UK's first plug-in Prius hire scheme

Car club firm Streetcar has this week launched the UK's first electric car hire scheme, offering Londoners the chance to hire a plug-in hybrid version of Toyota's popular Prius. The Amberjac has a 30 mile range using the battery.
